Producing at PADNET

Cost: FREE | 3 Hours | View Syllabus

This seminar will focus on the basics of producing videos in both the field and in the studio. Topics include pre‐production and show development, PADNET policies, equipment planning, protecting yourself from liability, day-of‐production tasks and post‐production responsibilities.

CERTIFICATION: Attendance and completion of Producing at PADNET certifies a PADNET Member to submit Project Proposals. Project Proposals are the necessary first step for reserving equipment, edit suites, and the studio.

 


Field Production: Filming with Phone Stabilizers

Cost: $30 | 2 Hours | View Syllabus

Improve the way you shoot video with your phone by using stabilizers. This class offers hands‐on training with the DJI Osmo Mobile and Steadicam Smoothee. Students will also learn shooting techniques, proper composition, and policies & procedures for checking out PADNET equipment.

CERTIFICATION: Attendance and completion of Field Production: Filming With Phone Stabilizers certifies a PADNET Member to gain access of the DJI Osmo Stabilizer Package and Steadicam Smoothee available at The Hub. Project Proposals are required for all equipment reservations.

 


Field Production: JVC Camcorders

Cost: $65 | 6 Hours | View Syllabus

Learn how to set up a production in the field. This class offers hands‐on training with the JVC 150/200 camcorder including camera operation, shooting techniques, recording audio and proper set‐up and breakdown of equipment. You’ll also learn the procedures and policies for checking out PADNET equipment.

CERTIFICATION: Attendance and completion of Field Production: JVC Camcorder certifies a PADNET Member to gain access of the JVC 150/200 and microphones available at The Hub and PADNET Satellites. Project Proposals are required for all equipment reservations.

 


Field Production: DSLR Camera

Cost: $75 | 6 Hours | View Syllabus

Learn how to set up a production in the field. This class offers hands‐on training with the Canon 5D mark iii camera including camera operation, shooting techniques, recording audio and proper set‐up and breakdown of equipment. You’ll also learn the procedures and policies for checking out PADNET equipment.

CERTIFICATION: Attendance and completion of Field Production: DSLR Camera certifies a PADNET Member to gain access of the Canon 5D mark iii camera and microphones available at The Hub and PADNET Satellites. Project Proposals are required for all equipment reservations.

 


Field Production: Lighting

Cost: $36 | 2.5 Hours | View Syllabus

Learn how to set up lights in the field. This class offers hands‐on training with the Lowel Light Kit, gels, umbrellas, reflectors, on‐camera lights and proper set‐up and breakdown of equipment. You’ll also learn the procedures and policies for checking out PADNET equipment.

CERTIFICATION: Attendance and completion of Field Production: Lighting certifies a PADNET Member to gain access of the Lowel Light Kit, LED on‐camera light, and reflector available at The Hub and PADNET Satellites. Project Proposals are required for all equipment reservations.

 


Green Screen Lighting at The Main Library Satellite

Cost: $36 | 2.5 Hours | View Syllabus

Learn how to set up lights in the the Green Screen Studio at the Main Library Satellite. This class offers hands-on training with the Arri Fresnel lights including proper set-up and breakdown of equipment. You’ll also learn the procedures and policies for using the Green Screen studio.

CERTIFICATION: Attendance and completion of Green Screen Lighting certifies a PADNET Member to gain access of the Green Screen Studio at the Main Library Satellite. Project Proposals are required for all Green Screen Studio reservations.


Studio Production 1: Producing, Lighting, and Graphics

Cost: $50 | 3 Hours | View Syllabus

Learn how to prepare and plan for a studio production. This includes discussion of show formats, scheduling, and seeking crew. Create graphics using Inscriber, operate the teleprompter, adjust the studio lights, and operate the dimmer board.

CERTIFICATION: Attendance and completion of Studio 1 certifies a PADNET Member to create titles using Inscriber, operate the teleprompter, adjust the studio lights, and operate the dimmer board. Completion of Producing At PADNET, Studio 1, Studio 2, and Studio 3 certifies a PADNET Member to reserve the Multi‐Cam Studio at The Hub. Project Proposals are required for all studio reservations.

 


Studio Production 2: Camera, Audio, and Floor Managing

Cost: $50 | 3 Hours | View Syllabus

Learn how to operate the studio cameras and pedestals, discuss composition and safety protocol, and receive instruction about acting as a liaison between the studio floor and the control room. The class will also focus on connecting microphones and monitoring audio levels using the audio mixer.

CERTIFICATION: Attendance and completion of Studio 2 certifies a PADNET Member to operate studio cameras, set up microphones, operate audio board, and act as Floor Manager on a studio production. Completion of Producing At PADNET, Studio 1, Studio 2, and Studio 3 certifies a PADNET Member to reserve the Multi‐Cam Studio at The Hub. Project Proposals are required for all studio reservations.

 

 


Studio Production 3: Studio Directing

Cost: $75 | 6 Hours | View Syllabus

Learn proper directing techniques for managing a production crew. Operate a video switcher for editing live‐to‐tape. You will also receive in‐depth training on how to use the Broadcast Pix software to add video clips, photos, titles, and virtual sets using the green screen.

CERTIFICATION: Attendance and completion of Studio 3 certifies a PADNET Member to operate the video switcher as a Director or Technical Director on a studio crew. Completion of Producing At PADNET, Studio 1, Studio 2, and Studio 3 certifies a PADNET Member to reserve the Multi‐Cam Studio at The Hub. Project Proposals are required for all studio reservations.

 


Editing: Final Cut Pro X (Beginner)

Cost: $100 | 8 Hours | View Syllabus

Learn how to edit video using Final Cut Pro X. Create sequences using video clips, audio files, transitions, effects, and titles. Export files and upload for broadcast on PADNET TV.

CERTIFICATION: Attendance and completion of Editing: Final Cut Pro X certifies a PADNET Member to gain access of the edit suites located at The Hub and satellite locations. Project Proposals are required for all edit suite reservations.

Editing Exams are available for PADNET Members who have previous experience editing with Final Cut Pro X and would like to bypass attendance and completion of the EDITING: FINAL CUT PRO X class in order to gain access to PADNET Edit Suites. There is a $25 fee to take the Editing Exam and you must successfully pass the exam in order to gain access to PADNET Edit Suites. Contact PADNET to set up an appointment for the Editing Exam.

Editing: Adobe Premiere Pro (Beginner)

Cost: $100 | 8 Hours

Learn how to edit video using Adobe Premiere Pro. Create sequences using video clips, audio files, transitions, effects, and titles. Export files and upload for broadcast on PADNET TV.

CERTIFICATION: Attendance and completion of Editing: Adobe Premiere Pro certifies a PADNET Member to gain access of the edit suites located at The Hub and satellite locations. Project Proposals are required for all edit suite reservations.


Class registration policy: Must register at least 48 hours in advance. No walk-ins. 

Standard Class Policy: Minimum of three students required for class. If less than three, the class is subject to cancel and a PADNET member will contact you to reschedule or issue a refund.
